About Chin Augmentation
No one wants to give a weak first impression, so correcting a receding, undefined chin can be the key to a stronger, balanced face and a better first impression. The chin helps to frame the face and define the jawline, so for those in the Reno, Nevada and Tahoe/Truckee, California areas, chin augmentation at Charles P. Virden, MD can produce dramatic improvements with this short, minimally invasive plastic surgery. Dr. Charles P. Virden, a board-certified plastic surgeon, uses high-quality silicone chin implants to meet the goals and needs of his patients. Dr. Virden can combine chin implants with other facial plastic surgery procedures such as facelift, cheek augmentation, or nose surgery (rhinoplasty) for enhanced balance and symmetry between facial features. However, some patients may find that the chin implant alone can improve the entire face. A well-chosen and properly placed chin implant can define the jawline and bring the nose into proportion with the rest of the face.
The best candidates for chin augmentation surgery:
- Have a weak or short chin due to genetics or trauma
- Have a nose that appears too large
- Want a more proportionate look for facial balance
- Want a more distinctive profile
"I came in from out of state to have my procedures done with Dr. Virden. He is extremely personable, knowledgeable and confident in what he does. On the day of my pre-op, as I was flying into Reno, my flights were diverted and delayed and I didn't get in until late. Dr, Virden went above and beyond to meet with me outside of normal office hours to make sure I was ready and confident for surgery the next morning. He is caring and attentive and checked in on me over the weekend after the surgery. I'm extremely happy with my results. My breasts look amazing and my tummy flat! I have had minimal pain after surgery and I attribute that to having an extremely skilled surgeon. I highly recommend Dr. Virden!"- Google User / Google / Nov 22, 2016

What to Expect
A patient will be under general anesthesia during chin surgery, which is performed as an outpatient procedure at an accredited surgical facility. The plastic surgeon will make a small incision on either inside of the mouth or under the chin. An implant, which is made of biocompatible, medical-grade materials, will be placed carefully into the incision. After the implant is placed, the incision will be closed. If the incision was made in the mouth, the patient will have no visible scarring. For incisions under the chin, the scar will be carefully hidden to avoid detection. The entire surgery takes around 1 hour to complete.
Right after chin augmentation surgery, a dressing will be applied to the chin where it should remain for 3 – 4 days. Patients can expect some pain, tenderness, and swelling. Also, patients can experience a tight, stretched sensation following surgery. These symptoms usually go away in about one week. After the swelling subsides in a few weeks, patients will be able to see the results of their surgery. The implant will look and feel like normal bone. More importantly, the implant will have the consistency of a patient’s natural tissue to make it appear more natural.

define your profile
A short chin not only makes your profile look weak, but can also make your nose appear to be large and disproportionate. While some patients think they need a nose job, they may only need chin augmentation surgery to achieve full facial harmony and symmetry.
