About Vein Treatments@headingTag>
The Cutera VariLite Laser helps board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Charles Virden improve the appearance of his patient's skin by fading or erasing visible veins. VariLite is a dual wavelength (532 nm and 940 nm) laser system that generates an intense beam of light that is absorbed by oxyhemoglobin (bright red blood cells carrying oxygen) and melanin (black or brown pigment found in the skin) causing destruction while leaving healthy cells intact. This laser is excellent for treating broken vessel in the face and legs but also can treat other vascular, pigmented and cutaneous lesions like: facial telangiectasia, cherry angiomas, spider angiomas, rosacea, spider veins, lentignes, freckles, dermatosis papulosis nigra, and keratoses. Laser vein treatments can be done alone at Charles P. Virden, MD in Reno, Nevada, or in combination with a broadband light (BBL) treatment to maximize your results.
During a consultation, member of the team will help determine if laser vein removal is right for you in order to achieve your goals. The ideal candidates for laser vein removal:
- Have small spider veins on the face or body
- Want to remove vascular, pigmented, or cutaneous lesions
- Want a noninvasive procedure
- Want long-lasting results
- Want to improve appearance of their skin
What to Expect@headingTag>
Before treatment, the skin will be properly cleaned and prepped. The technician will place the VariLite laser on the surface of the skin to target the unwanted spider veins. The heat from the laser damages the vein, which leads to the formation of scar tissue. This scar tissue will cause the vein to close and once it closes, its blood source is lost. Consequently, the vein will die. Since this is an in-office procedure, patients will be able to resume normal activities after treatment.
Since laser treatment is noninvasive, it can take 1 – 2 years before the vein completely disappears from sight. Multiple treatments are needed for full results. During a consultation, you will be told how many sessions are recommended to meet your goals. Sessions are normally spaced out 6 – 12 weeks apart to allow the skin to heal.
