About Cheek Implants
Some people are born with flat or sunken cheeks, some people lose cheek volume and projection with age or an injury, but cheek implants make it possible for everyone to have full, defined cheekbones. Dr. Charles Virden, a board-certified plastic surgeon, uses cheek implants for patients in and around Reno, Nevada to bring better balance to the mid-face area and to fill out a face that appears “sunken” or tired. Cheek implants can also be used to correct facial asymmetry or deformities caused by an accident or congenital condition. The office of Charles P. Virden, MD also offers Juvéderm Voluma® XC for patients who want to preview the potential results of their cheek implants with a temporary injectable filler before committing to cheek augmentation surgery. Schedule a consultation to learn more about cheek augmentation and other facial plastic surgeries, like chin augmentation, a facelift, or brow lift to enhance your natural beauty.

What to Expect
Since this is an outpatient surgery, patients will be under general anesthesia at an accredited surgical facility for about one hour. An incision will be carefully made in the mouth between the cheek and upper gums. A pocket will be created over the cheekbone after the soft cheek tissue has been properly elevated. Then, the medical-grade plastic implant will be placed in the created pocket for one or both cheeks. Afterwards, the incisions will be closed and bandaged.
After cheek implants, patients should expect some level of swelling, numbness, and bruising in the treatment area. Normal activities, such as going to work, can usually be resumed within a week. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for the first few weeks after surgery. As the swelling resolves, the patient can expect to see the full benefits of the surgery over the following few months. Cheek implants have a strong safety record since they are made with the highest quality materials. While cheek implants provide long-term benefits, a patient’s face will change due to the aging process, which could impact the look of the implants over time.
