About Scar Revision
Scars can be caused by an accident or surgery, and they come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, and forms. When they are on the face or visible areas of the body, scars can decrease a person's confidence or make them feel like it should be covered up. Scar revision surgery at the office of Charles P. Virden, MD in Reno, Nevada uses a variety of techniques to make the scar less visible or more attractive. For some scars, board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Charles Virden, may use photorejuvenation with Sciton® Forever Young BBL™, while other scars may be improved with laser skin resurfacing using the Sciton® JOULE™ ProFractional™ laser. Dr. Virden and his staff may also use a combination of treatments to make the scar smoother and closer to the appearance of the normal skin. Patients in Northeast Nevada and Northwest California, who want to improve a scar on their face or body, should call to schedule a consultation with Dr. Virden and learn more about their scar revision options.
The best candidates for scar revision:
- Have scars as a result of trauma, accident, previous surgery, or cancer
- Have extensive cosmetic issues due to the appearance of the scar
- Desire a long-term solution
- Desire a natural look
Scar Revision Reviews
"I couldn't be happier with my entire experience. From my very first consultation Dr. Virden and his entire staff were wonderful. I truly felt like I was important and my comfort, experience and outcome was the number one priority. The entire procedure was explained to me thoroughly and any questions I had were answered very well. Dr. Vjrden did a wonderful job explaining the expected results and what can and can't be fixed through surgery. The day of my surgery was the most pleasant experience I've ever had with regards to all the surgeries I've had previously. All my fears were viewed as valid and Dr Virden and his surgical team made it a point to make me feel safe and comforted. I'm now six weeks post surgery and I love my results. I had a mommy makeover and love the work Dr. Virden did. I had gel implants, scar revision from a c-section and lipo on my abdomen and thighs and I couldn't be happier with the work he did. My abdomen is flat, my scar revision looks wonderful and my breasts look very full, beautiful and natural and my thighs look smooth and slender. I am so glad I went to Dr. Virden and would recommend him to everyone I can."- Anonymous / Vitals / Nov 13, 2013
"I had been contemplating a breast reduction and lift for a few years. I sought out Dr. Virden after having many negative and frankly uncomfortable encounters with other surgeons who wanted me to get implants. Dr. Virden made me feel comfortable, at ease and confident in my choice to stay smaller and natural. I also opted for a lateral scar revision from abdominal surgery, and now I can barely see the scar hidden in my bikini line. He did a phenomenal job, my breasts are symmetrical, perky and perfect for my body with minimal scaring. I love the way every single person in the office treats me and I will continue to frequent the office for botox and other small procedures."- M.G. / Google / Feb 01, 2020
What to Expect
Various types of scars call for different techniques. When scars arise from a problem with a previous surgery, the original incision can be re-opened and the skin can be moved around to minimize the appearance of the scar. In some cases, the scar can be moved to a different location to make it less visible. With raised scars, laser skin resurfacing procedures can be used to remove the upper layers of skin to make the scar smoother and more even with the rest of the face. Pigmented scar typically benefit from a photofacial. Depending on the type of scar and its condition, the plastic surgeon will use general or local anesthesia. The surgery is considered outpatient, so the patient can return home the same day.
After surgery, pain, discomfort, redness, swelling, and bruising can be expected. If stitches were used, they are usually removed in the few days following surgery. Strenuous exercise and activities will need to be avoided for the first week or so. In addition, patients should keep the head elevated while sleeping. There will be multiple follow-up appointments so the surgeon can ensure the treatment site is healing properly. It can take up to a full year or more for the scar to fully heal and for the patient to notice full results.
