About Male Implants
At Charles P. Virden, MD in Reno, Nevada there are few operations that make as dramatic an improvement to the male body as calf and pectoral augmentation. Board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Charles Virden performs male augmentation surgery to enhance a man's body, but also to correct deformities to the legs and chest caused by a congenital condition or accident. Calf and pectoral implants enhance and increase the appearance of a man's chest or legs with special, silicone implants.
Pectoral augmentation involves placing solid silicone implants beneath the pectoralis major muscle much like breast augmentation for women. This procedure is performed by placing the implants through small incisions along the chest wall for a much firmer and more powerful appearing chest. Pectoral implants can also correct deformities and asymmetry for an improved chest contour. Calf augmentation for men in the Reno area places solid silicone implants on top of the gastrocnemius muscles. For those with naturally small calves, even with vigorous weight lifting, there is very little chance to improve the size of one’s calves naturally. Calf augmentation can also correct an abnormal appearance in the lower legs caused by polio, clubfoot, spina bifida, and other conditions.
The best candidates for male augmentation surgery:
- Have tried diet and exercise
- Want to enhance or define their muscles
- Want to fix a physical defect or body asymmetry
- Have overall good health
- Have realistic expectations
"His kindness and passion for what he does is beyond what I know as a scrub tech.... I am his patient now and am so excited for what's to come."- A.S. / Facebook / Mar 27, 2021
"I had breast augmentation surgery from Dr. Virden 3 years ago and I could not be happier with the results. He was very thorough in explaining everything I could expect after surgery. "In November, 1996 I had my first surgery a tummy tuck, in August of 2002 I had a facelift. Both surgeries went well and I can not thank Dr. Virden for his talent and kindness. I followed his advice, taking care of my skin and avoiding too much sun. I don't won't to brag but I looked 20 plus years younger and recovered quickly and felt great within days after the surgery, I went back on tour singing within 2 weeks. Now 24 years later I still look 20 years younger with exception to a little sagging under the eyes. I'm in great shape for 78 years old but again you would never know it. I feel great get plenty of exercise a good diet but would like to eliminate the need for friends to say I need to get more sleep, I look great but need to get more sleep. So I'm looking forward to visiting Doctor Virden again for a little surgery that will stop there worry. When you feel that confident about a Special Doctor you want to share your gratitude to others."- Anonymous / RateMDs / Feb 09, 2021
"Knowledgeable and compassionate, always available. He removed my 23yr old implants leaving my natural breast spectacular. Dr. Virden assured me that I didn't need a lift, and he was correct. I couldn't be happier with my results and his whole team. They all treated me like family through the whole process and this is very important to me. I would never go anywhere else!"- V.R. / Facebook / Dec 27, 2020
What to Expect
Patients may have one augmentation surgery or a combination, depending on their specific needs and goals. Most implant surgeries are done with the patient under local or general anesthesia as an outpatient surgery, but some patients may need to spend the night for observation.
- Calf Implants: An incision is made in the back of the knee and then the implant is placed in a pocket either below the fascia or within the calf muscle.
- Pectoral Implants: An incision is made in the armpit and the implant is placed under the pectoral muscles and above the ribs.
The recovery period after implant surgery will vary depending on the location of the implant, but the surgeon will go over aftercare instructions, including medications, compression garments, and activity restrictions. Final results will be visible 1 – 3 months after the surgery when the swelling subsides and the implants settle into their final position. Implants can be long lasting, but patients should follow the surgeon’s care instruction and have their implants checked regularly for infections or leaks.
